which is more to blame than the drought for the dire situation,
has opted to keep silent or to minimize the impact of the tragedy

The regime of Meles Zenawi has announced a
few days ago that it has cancelled the death sentence imposed
by its own courts on 23 top officials of the former regime accused
of mass murder during the notorious Red Terror campaign (late
seventies). The commutation of the death sentence to life imprisonment
is expected to be followed by the release of the accused as
